Do you know Australia has a National Tartan?

The Australian National Tartan was registered in 2003 with the Scottish World Register and was accredited by the Federal Protocol department of the Australian Government in Canberra.

Betty J Johnston designed the Tartan, being mindful of our historical links and used colours that portray Australia as a Nation. Green and Gold are Australia’s National colours and the Red White and Blue of

the Australian flag.

The six white stripes represent Southern Cross constellation and the Commonwealth Star. The white also represents the cross of St Andrew, Red is reminiscent of the Cross of St George and St Patrick, Blue is for the background of the Australian Flag. The Black reflects Australia’s early beginnings, and its convict settlements, a dark side of our history.

Thank you to Betty & Brad Johnston for the donation of a lovely wool blanket as a fundraiser.

It is in the Australian National Tartan pattern.
